DRDC Atlantic meets Marelec 2006

DRDC Atlantic scientists Marius Birsan, Zahir Daya, Brad Nelson and Troy Richards, represented Canada at the Marelec conference April 19-21, 2006. The conference took place at the Marine Establishment in Amsterdam. Marelec is a premier conference in underwater electromagnetic research for defence and resource exploration, bringing defence, industry and academia together from around the world.. Electromagnetic signatures, sounding experiments and corrosion protection studies were prominent on the agenda.

Troy Richards delivered a paper on Analytic Solutions for the static Electromagnetic Fields of a Very Long Underwater Pipeline Including Surface and Seafloor Effects. Zahir Daya’s paper focused on the topic, Towards Benchmarking Magnetic target Detection Schemes. Brad Nelson’s paper discussed Separation and Reduction of Geological and Geomagnetic Noise in Aeromagnetic Data. Marius Birsan closed the conference with Unscented Particle Filter for Tracking a Magnetic Dipole Target as well as Scattering of Electromagnetic Waves by Submerged 3D Conducting Object. The conference was a great success and the scientists plan to participate in the next one, which is tentatively scheduled for Aberdeen, Scotland.
