Anthony Isenor invited to speak at the North Pacific Marine Science Council (PICES) 14th Annual Meeting

DRDC Atlantic scientist, Anthony Isenor, was recently invited to speak at the North Pacific Marine Science Council (PICES) 14th Annual Meeting, held this year in Vladivostok, Russia from October 3-7. Anthony provided the keynote presentation at the session sponsored by the Technical Committee on Ocean Data Exchange (TCODE).

The TCODE is tasked with identifying the data management requirements of PICES and the development of strategic plans to meet these requirements. Anthony’s talk, which was titled Data Exchange, XML, and why the exchange problem is still unsolved, reviewed developments in data exchange that have taken place in the international oceanographic community over the last several years.

The presentation put particular emphasis on XML, metadata structures and vocabularies that support the exchange of oceanographic data resources. Anthony was also invited to participate in the TCODE meeting, organized as part of the Conference.

PICES is made up of six nations bordering the Pacific: Canada, Japan, People's Republic of China, Republic of Korea, the Russian Federation, and the United States of America. The Science Council was established in 1992 to promote and coordinate marine research in the North Pacific.
